About Working Women’s Centre WA (WWC)

Working Women’s Centres provide free information, advocacy, advice and assistance to women on workplace issues, including workplace entitlements and rights, gender issues, cultural diversity, discrimination and sexual harassment. Women’s Legal Service WA  is implementing the Western Australian WWC in partnership with Circle Green. The WA WWC service model is holistic and trauma-informed, to ensure that issues in relation to the workplace are addressed in the context of women’s other needs.

Circle Green provides state-wide specialist legal services in employment, workplace discrimination, residential tenancy law, family and domestic violence, and humanitarian services aimed at assisting people who are otherwise disadvantaged in their access to legal services.

About Women’s Legal Service WA (WLSWA)

WLSWA is the only gender specific community legal centre in WA, delivering services to women who are financially disadvantaged, and who live with multiple vulnerabilities that creates other barriers to accessing justice. Socio-legal assistance is tailored to ensure continuity in support and mitigate re-traumatising clients. As a specialist legal service, WLSWA works alongside and compliments generalist community legal centre work. WLSWA also promotes women’s human rights to be upheld and fosters legal and social change through a range of strategic activities, including law and policy reform.  WLSWA is the lead agency in the delivery of the WWCWA and will host the service hub and provide central coordination.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a Lawyer (unrestricted) to provide comprehensive legal advice, casework, representation, community legal education & training, and law reform contributions in the area of workplace law under the direct supervision of Senior Lawyers and ultimate supervision of the Principal Lawyer – Workplace at Circle Green. Lawyers will also be responsible to the WA WWC Manager.

You will work closely with both WA WWC staff and Circle Green’s Workplace Stream as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide clients with trauma-informed, effective, and accessible socio-legal services to working women in WA. You will work with clients and WA WWC social workers to ensure each client’s workplace issues are addressed in the context of their broader social needs. A client-centred approach and a commitment to ensuring a best practice integrated response for working women experiencing complex and intersecting needs are essential.

Based in the Perth office, Lawyers will be required to travel to undertake outreach circuits across regional WA.

Key Responsibilities of the role include:

• Client work. Delivering high quality, trauma informed and pragmatic legal advice on a wide range of employment law and workplace discrimination issues.
• Work with social workers, interpreters, disability advocates, financial counsellors and other support workers to meet client’s broader needs and deliver accessible legal services.
• Legal Supervision. Conduct regular file reviews of open client matters, identifying and actioning relevant deadlines as appropriate.
• Strategic Law Review and Advocacy. Identify gaps and opportunities for meaningful reform of workplace laws for the benefit of working women in WA.

ABOUT YOU

Shortlisted candidates will have:

Credentials and Experience 

• A Law Degree and admitted (or eligible for admission) as a legal practitioner in the Supreme Court of Western Australia and hold an unrestricted (or eligible to hold) WA practicing certificate.
• At least 2 years post admission experience in workplace law.
• A demonstrated commitment to human rights and social justice issues, including advancing interests of women, reducing gender inequality and empowering women.

Skills 

• Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to understand and convey complex concepts to people from diverse social, cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
• Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Demonstrated problem solving, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to conduct casework and litigation, including advocacy skills.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We have an exciting opportunity for a Social Worker to provide high quality client support interventions. You will advocate with and on behalf of the client to meet wider social, health and well-being needs. You will be responsible for undertaking tasks that support case management, documentation, referrals and appointments.

Reporting to the Director Services, you will join our dedicated team to make a profound impact on the lives of our Tenancy and Humanitarian clients who may include those experiencing financial hardship, risk of eviction from housing, refugees, asylum seekers and clients seeking visa assistance.

Responsibilities of the role include:

• Provide clinical social work service to clients of Circle Green. Support clients in a trauma informed way that assist them to understand the information, advice and options provided by legal staff.
• Provide a range of support interventions within a development framework that enables clients to address their needs and improve quality of life.
• Use regular networking and community service to promote the service, to enable effective referrals and stay informed of client referral options.
• Stakeholder engagement. Develops and maintains respectful and responsive relationships with staff and agencies. Ensures effective two way communication with all key stakeholders.
• Where required, attend and facilitate forums, meetings, working groups related to the role.
• Assist with the completion of data collection, auditing and analysis of clients’ files.
• Maintain and meet monthly data collection, client feedback and monthly reporting requirements.

ABOUT YOU

We are seeking a Social Worker with a client centred support approach and a commitment to providing high quality services to vulnerable people. Shortlisted candidates will have:

Qualification and Experiences 

• Tertiary qualification in Social Work and be eligible for full membership in the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
• 3-5 years’ experience in evidenced based case management practice
• Experience in supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged groups
• Experience working in a community legal centre or other multi-disciplinary environment (desirable)

Skills

• Demonstrated knowledge of varied methods of assessment, case management and evaluation of social work practice.
• Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to support Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) clients, family members and significant others by listening to and understanding the experience of mental health issues, being sensitive to cultural norms and use of interpreting services as required.
• Ability to manage a clinical caseload and effective time management.
• Demonstrated ability to function independently or as a member of a multi disciplinary team.
