Recently, our team had the privilege of spending a full day with Dooga Waalitj Healing, immersing ourselves in a powerful and enriching Cultural Immersion Experience. From the moment the day began, we were welcomed into a space of storytelling, language learning, and interactive activities, all designed to open our hearts and minds to the rich history and cultural depth of Aboriginal people. Through these experiences, we explored the profound connections between Boodja (country) and its people, acknowledging the ancestral past and recognising the history deeply rooted in the land around us—a legacy spanning over 60,000 years. A particularly special moment came at the end of the day when our team had the opportunity to create a collective artwork. Etched into a kangaroo hide, this unique piece represents our reflections, our learning, and our shared commitment to respecting and understanding Aboriginal culture. More than just artwork, it is a tangible reminder of our journey together and the learnings and responsibility we carry forward. The piece also reflects Circle Green’s services and how we help people in our community, illustrating how all these elements interconnect and work together. To complement this enriching experience, we enjoyed delicious catering provided by All Good Grub, Bushtukka Inspired Catering. The thoughtfully prepared meals showcased native ingredients, adding another meaningful layer to the day’s cultural immersion. “The immersion day helped me to understand that community, connection to land and spiritual practices are not three distinct things – but is many ways each is needed to fulfil the other. Reminding us just how important each of these things are to First Nations Cultures.“ About Dooga Waalitj Healing Understanding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, history, and experiences is essential to working in a culturally informed way. Dooga Waalitj Healing provides training and support to organisations looking to build their knowledge (Kaartdijin) and create more respectful and inclusive workplaces. Their programs challenge perspectives, foster deeper awareness of intergenerational trauma and the impacts of colonisation, and encourage participants to develop a meaningful understanding of Aboriginal ways of being. We are incredibly grateful for this experience and highly encourage other organisations to take part in this journey of learning and reflection. By deepening our understanding, we can work together towards a more inclusive and culturally aware future. Interested in cultural training for your team?
