Sarah Lee – Humanitarian Volunteer What do you enjoy the most about volunteering? Volunteering in the Humanitarian team at Circle Green has allowed me to meaningfully contribute to the community, provide support to vulnerable people and gain practical experience in a very interesting area of law. Circle Green has also provided an incredibly supportive environment for me to develop my skills and make meaningful connections. How do you think access to legal support helps build stronger communities? The high costs of private legal services have made it difficult for vulnerable individuals to obtain legal support. By providing access to legal services, we remove barriers to justice and foster a better understanding within communities about their rights and how they can be exercised. Individuals are better equipped to challenge injustices and navigate the legal system with confidence, strengthening communities. What advice would you give to someone thinking about volunteering in community legal services? What I enjoy most about volunteering in the Humanitarian stream at Circle Green is that I have learnt a lot about the area of law, as well as developed many practical and professional skills that you would not learn through university. It is really satisfying to be able to learn while also assisting people and making a difference. The staff at Circle Green are also very nice and create a supportive environment to volunteer in. What advice would you give to anyone looking to volunteer? Go for it! Volunteering in a community legal centre is one of the most rewarding ways you can give back to the community. Access to justice is a very worthy cause that you can contribute to by dedicating one week a day. Your work will make a massive difference to each person’s life.
