During National Volunteer Week, we’re featuring some of the individuals whose passion and talent enrich our volunteer community.

Johanna Thomas – Humanitarian Volunteer

What made you want to get into volunteering and why did you choose Circle Green Community Legal?

I volunteered to be part of an organisation that contributes to the betterment of society, tackles barriers of unfairness and lives their values. Unfairness is often blindly accepted, and I became disillusioned by the difference between what organisations portray and what realistically happens. Volunteering offered a welcome change.

Where else do you volunteer?

I previously volunteered with Oxfam. Volunteering has enabled me to meet like-minded people who are in the field for altruistic reasons. It nurtures my passions and aligns with my values providing a fulfilling experience. Volunteering offers an opportunity to integrate social and academic interests for anyone of any background.

What do you enjoy the most about volunteering?

I enjoy many things about volunteering; working with a knowledgeable, caring and inspiring team, assisting the community, but mostly contributing to an organisation involved in equitable practices and progress around access to justice, it’s satisfying.
